HISTORY OF THOMAS WILDSCHUTT PRIMARY SCHOOL
Thomas Wildschutt Primary School opened its doors to 140 learners in January 1968, with Mr. J. D. Oliver as its principal and a staff of 7 teachers.
Even though the school was ill-equipped, lacking many facilities such as desks, learning and teaching support materials and other equipment, the dedicated staff swept aside many of the obstacles before they faced and and made an impact which led to academic excellence and unparalleled achievements in sport and athletics. Thomas Wildschutt Primary School very quickly became one of the most respected schools in the area, offering the best education possible.
Since 1968, the leadership of the school has changed hands often, weathering difficult and good times and by the grace of God, the school has still managed to stand tall. Over the last 56 years of the school’s existence, parents, educators, learners and the Retreat Community can feel proud to be associated with Thomas Wildschutt Primary School. Many of our parents were learners at Thomas Wildschutt School at some point. Much must still be done, but with a dedicated and motivated staff, supported by willing parents, the school can achieve new heights in its strive towards effective and meaningful learning.
